Abstract: Article concentrates on pastoral Saami, omitting coastal and inland landholders, with their varied means of subsistance. Land management is compared with studied area of co-management in Inuvialuit, Canada. Aspects include pastures and their subdivisions, changes in technology leading to market economy, nature and location of pastoralists, relationships with herds, tourism, nature of land ownership/use, and relations with Sámediggi, Storting and non-herding Saami.
