Abstract: | Management of Finnish royal forests was set up in 1851, to immediate conflict with people's forestry. Author aims to answwer questions about why these forests were set up and why they are so large. Farmers and reindeer herders had found free summer grazing in forests, but government wanted payment for use and damage, as it wanted timber first and foremost. Many cases were taken to court. Laestadians had good name with government, as they saw damage as sin, and cases decreased in scale and number. |
