Kva tid oppstod Nord-Norge? / Hallvard Tjelmeland.

Title: Kva tid oppstod Nord-Norge? / Hallvard Tjelmeland.
Translated title: When did North Norway arise?.
Author(s): Tjelmeland, Hallvard.
Date: 1997.
Publisher: Tromsø, Norway: Senter for samiske studier
Language: Norwegian.
In: Stat, religion, etnisitet. (1997.),
Abstract: Article describes regionalisation processes in North Norway up to 1950. Distinctive factors are climate, land and sea conditions, initial social relationships and trade patterns. Fish were implicated heavily in all these, as dried fish was first export in size, if not in time, and became large, uniform trade despite being run in small units. Sea, as opposed to coastal, fishery developed over Great Edge of continental shelf. Article surveys literature on regions where it concerns North Norway, compares statistics of industry in Norwegian regions, and describes early regionalism based on Hålogaland, and effects of Northeners' Association (Nordlaendingenes Forening).
