Abstract: Author explains his theoretical approach to Swedisation in relation to those of other social scientists, confining himself to Norbotten, Västerbotten and Finnish parishes along border. There are two traditions setting values here - big tradition is initial nationalisation project, little tradition has basis in parish, kinship etc. From below minorities built own network. Conflicts were not mainly ethnic; in Enontekiö court, 23% of cases related to conflicts between Finns and Saami, 52% between Finns.
