Title: Laestadianisme - samisk religion for et samisk samfunn? / Henry Minde.
Translated title: Laestadianism - Saami religion for a Saami community?.
Author(s): Minde, Henry.
Date: 1997.
Publisher: Tromsø, Norway: Senter for samiske studier
Language: Norwegian.
In: Stat, religion, etnisitet. (1997.),
Abstract: Article considers historians' changing evaluations of history of Laestadianism and its social supports, its different manifestations in place and time, and relations between Saami, Kvens and Norwegians within it. Author has studied local history in Stuorranjárga district, where it was undoubtedly Saami in character, brought over from Sweden by migrant reindeer herders. Some theories see it as reaction to novelty or as religion of lower, downtrodden class. Author prefers not to adopt consciously one historical view.
