| Abstract: | Society was founded in 1771, with priest Pehr Högström as an early leader. He had been missionary in Lapland from 1741-1749 and pastor in Gällivare. Article explains some of his documents and those of Theophilus Gran, their positive estimation of Gospel's progress in Lapland, from pietisitc standpoint, and attitude of more rationalistic Society to some enthusiatic accounts of visions etc. Combined with account of Norwegian Knud Leem, Gran's amends customary view of conversion of Saami. |
