Abstract: Paper gives statistics of Saami moving in Enare area, then of gradual settlement of fishing Saami, with some Finns, in four parts of area, from 1805 to 1910. Effects of severe weather and of main lines of travel along valleys on settlement pattern are explained. As more people moved in, so disputes over rights to water and pasture began. Final phase was Crown Forest crofts in 1980s, which spread settlements more widely over Enare area.
