Record #144351:

Observations on sorted circle development, Abisko, northern Sweden / Johan Kling.

Title: Observations on sorted circle development, Abisko, northern Sweden / Johan Kling.
Author(s): Kling, Johan.
Date: 1997.
In: Permafrost and Periglacial Processes. (1997.), Vol. 8(4) (1997)
Abstract: Unusually high centred sorted circles can be found in front of perennial and late lying snow patches. Measurements were conducted over two- year period of frost heave, thaw settlement and lateral sorting of surface clasts, with studies of internal structure and texture. Internally there is massive upper layer and lower one dominated by lens-shaped pores, interpreted as remains of ice lenses. Clay increases at lower levels. There is less frost heave in fine domain than in stony border. Convex fine domain drives surface clasts outwards.
