In: Meddelelser om Grønland. Bioscience. (1997.), Vol. 46 (1997)
Abstract: Walruses occur in small groups along east coast from 63 to 82 deg. N. Greatest abundance is north of 73 deg. 30. Sexes are generally separated in summer. In Aug. and Sep. 50 males were found at each of two haulouts, seemingly connected. In summer, majority go further north. Animals winter in NE Water Polynya, in leads and cracks in pack ice and further south in smaller polynyas and in ice shear zone. From 1889 to 1955 1680 were killed, from population originally c. 900. Greenlanders removed 20 to 30 annually.
