Abstract: Aim of project was to map water supply situation in Murmansk County, and to put proposals for improving quality. Main threat to quality was pollution of sources and catchment. Drinking water had high content of organic material and colouring. pH value was too low except for Kirovsk, where it was very high. Danger of bacterial pollution was large. Heavy metals and suchlike were not above permitted levels, except for high aluminium content at Kirovsk, and generally too low calcium content overall. Individual town measures are proposed. Groundwater situation is also reported by individual towns.
