Abstract: "Author's approach to the Far North is not that of other kayakers. He hears chant from innards of inland ice, is attentive to lumps of marble as well as to saxifrage. He observes flight of tern, nesting of barnacle goose and growth of walrus, and sympathises with fox. He has migrated yearly since age of ten to aureole himself in northern light, rendered in masterly way in his photographs." His account contains brief descriptions of geology, history, mining, whaling, expeditions, flora and fauna.
