Abstract: Article describes Finnish-speaking tradition in Jukkasjärvi up to 1930s, and its continuing influence on pronunciation. Example of university's course in North Saami is not encouraging - only one of 30 students passed. Author attributes failure to orthography, since Saami concerned could speak three languages fluently.
