| Abstract: | Candidates for possible Precambrian proto-basement throughout Svalbaard are considered. Paper provides tectono-stratigraphic framework for consideration of new data. Precambrian tectonic event is implied. Vendian rocks are widespread in Svalbard, so search is narrowed to pre-Vendian rocks. 9 groups are identified, with perhaps 6 more. Terrane implications agree with three terrane model of Harland and Wright, modified by author. If conclusions here are right, effect is to subtract from outcrops commonly mapped as likely proto-basement. |
