Record #143899:

Ancient Eskimo dwelling sites and Holocene relative sea level changes in southern Disko Bugt, central West Greenland / Morten Rasch, Jens Fog Jensen.

Title: Ancient Eskimo dwelling sites and Holocene relative sea level changes in southern Disko Bugt, central West Greenland / Morten Rasch, Jens Fog Jensen.
Author(s): Rasch, Morten.
Jensen, Jens Fog.
Date: 1997.
In: Polar Research. (1997.), Vol. 16(2) (1997)
Abstract: Coordinated geological-archaeological investigation was carried out in Disko Bugt to elucidate Holocene relative sea level changes. Two contours representing Holocene emergence of Disko Bugt were drawn. Elevations of palaeo- Eskimo sites of different ages were surveyed and supplemented from literature. Detailed investigations were carried out at two partly submerged Dorset I sites. It is concluded that southern Disko Bugt emerged steadily during Early -Middle Holocene followed by submergence in Late Holocene. Transgression to present sea level seems to have started c. 1000 AD.
