Record #143884:

Size-specific food partitioning and growth in benthic whitefish, Coregonus lavaretus (L.), in a sub-Arctic lake / Arto Tolonen.

Title: Size-specific food partitioning and growth in benthic whitefish, Coregonus lavaretus (L.), in a sub-Arctic lake / Arto Tolonen.
Author(s): Tolonen, Arto.
Date: 1997.
In: Boreal Environment Research. (1997.), Vol. 2(4) (1997)
Abstract: Summer diet was studied in oligotrophic sub-Arctic lake during open- water seasons in 1982-1983. Planktonic crustaceans, especially cladocerans, were most common food of small (< 150 mm) fish. Mid-sized fish (150-220 mm) preyed mostly on larvae and pupae of chironomids, which were also most frequent prey of larger fish in July. Zoobenthos such as mollluscs and chironomid larvae were food most eaten by largest fish. All groups increased use of zoobenthos and decreased that of insect pupae towards autumn. After reaching length of 240 mm growth increased rapidly.
