Abstract: Fresh samples were taken and crude cultures made in RV Polarstern in autumn 1995. Live material was taken from water column, new ice and multi- year ice floes. 57 photo- and heterotrophic flagellate taxa, some protists and heliozoans were found. Ice forms contained twice as many flagellate taxa as water column.
