Record #143872:

Seabird species associations and affinities to areas covered with sea ice in the northern Greenland and Barents Seas / Fridtjof Mehlum.

Title: Seabird species associations and affinities to areas covered with sea ice in the northern Greenland and Barents Seas / Fridtjof Mehlum.
Author(s): Mehlum, Fridtjof.
Date: 1997.
In: Polar Biology. (1997.), Vol. 18(2) (1997)
Abstract: Associations were studied in 1980-1984. Sampling was for 10-min. periods, about 1.4 km. In Greenland Sea, 3 or 4 of Fulmarus glacialis, Alle alle, Uria lomvia and Rissa tridactyla recurred in all 4 years. In Barents Sea, fulmars, Brünnich's guillemots and kittiwakes were most often clustered. Positive association with sea ice was found in more than one cruise in 3 species: black guillemots, ivory gulls and little auks. Diet obviously governs affinities.
