Abstract: Neolithodes grimaldii is reddish crab with long, hollow, quite strong spikes on body and legs. Shell is quite thin and about 14 cm across. Stretched out it can span 38 cm. It comes to surface as by-catch. It probably feeds like other crabs, partly on carrion. Right claw is larger, and used to break into shellfish, for fighting and mating. It lives some thousand metres deep in Atlantic west and south-west of Iceland. Some of its large relatives are described.
