Record #143740:

Renskötseln inför en ny tid / John Gustavsen.

Title: Renskötseln inför en ny tid / John Gustavsen.
Translated title: Reindeer herding facing new times.
Author(s): Gustavsen, John.
Date: 1997.
Language: Norwegian.
In: Samefolket. (1997.), Vol. 78(11) (1997)
Abstract: Interview with Bård Berg, researcher at Nordic Saami Institute, considers current situation and prospects. In southern parts such as South Trøndelag, threat is from farming and forestry, yet there are young people keen to enter reindeer herding. In Finnmark, there is serious over-grazing, and government efforts to buy herders out and so reduce numbers may bring whole industry down to level where substructure melts away. Berg still believes that herding can be saved, with help of sensible regualtion and under ILO Convention 169.
