Record #143501:

A discussion on pingos in Mellemfjord, Disko, Central West Greenland / Stephen D. Gurney, Peter Worsley.

Title: A discussion on pingos in Mellemfjord, Disko, Central West Greenland / Stephen D. Gurney, Peter Worsley.
Author(s): Gurney, Stephen D.
Worsley, Peter.
Date: 1997.
In: Geografisk Tidsskrift. (1997.), Vol. 97 (1997)
Abstract: Hydraulic ("open system") pingos are poorly explained. They need perennial groundwater supply, maintained despite existence of continuous permafrost. Recent work on Disko Island suggested new type of hydraulic pingo developing only in marsh environment. It is argued that marsh setting is not relevant to formation of pingos, which are of known type.
