Abstract: | Census was undertaken by over 70 people; places observed are tabulated and mapped. Temperatures and precipitation are recorded. 80 species of bird were seen. Mammals included mouse, probably Microtus arvalis. Polar bears killed two people in 1995; eight bear were killed, weighed and measured. Five types of seal were seen. Special visits were made to islands and reserves. Whale sightings were mapped. Phoca hispida and foxes were tagged with satellite senders. Reindeer were studied in several ways. |
