| Abstract: | Describes studies towards establishing monitoring system for organochlorine pollutants, based on analysis of samples from five Antarctic seabird species. Includes directed transport of volatile organochlorine pollutants to polar regions and effect on contamination pattern of Antarctic seabirds; uropygial oil and blood samples as pollution level indicators, and effects of sampling on breeding success; seasonal fluctuations of pollutant concentrations in Adélie penguins and southern fulmars; seabirds as early warning ecosystem indicators; and monitoring organochlorine pollutants in Antarctic ecosystem. |
