Abstract: | Breeding success was studied during 1986-1994 in Finnish Lapland. 15% of flycatcher eggs did not hatch. In spells of cold weather during nestling period, flycatchers tried to compensate for inactivity of winged insects by altering foraging niches and diet, but fed less often. Tit changed neither foraging strategy nor frequency in relation to temperature. Hatching success was very good despite early breeding, but 22% of nestlings died. |
