Abstract: Paper gives background to present situation, with fluctuations in people's need to learn Danish and other priorities at time of Home Rule. Higher education is still in Danish and based on Nordic system of books. Formal links are only with Denmark. Although some visits have been made to Canadian Inuit and been appreciated, there is no body to sponsor these. English is being pushed by Ilulissat municipality. Problems of bilingual elite and Greenlandic-speaking majority remain.
