| Abstract: | Seeks to determine levels of selected heavy metals (arsenic, cadmium, copper, iron, lead, mercury, selenium and zinc) in selected bowhead whale tissue. Compares levels of metals found with those obtained from other cetacean species and in selected domestic species to attempt estimate of risk to bowhead whales. Also seeks to estimate potential hazards to humans consuming subsistence harvested whale meat. |
