Author(s): Groenewald, Sandra.
Date: 1997.
In: Circumpolar Journal. (1997.), Vol. 12(1) (1997)
Abstract: History starts in 1884 with Guastv Holm's discovery of Ammassalik Inuit. Rapid change began in 1950. Garments, their materials and used in 1884 are described. Imported decoration was first added, then cotton was used for linings. Skins were used only for gloves and boots by 1970, apart from hunting trousers. Waterproofs were then oilskin. Festive clothing became national costume, with bead collars, sealskin trousers and boots for women, and for men sealskin boots, fabric anorak and trousers.
