Abstract: | During last decade of 19th Cent. development of hydro-electric power began. By 1920s it had reached mountains and increased until 1960s. It was developed mostly in seven largest rivers such as Lule and Ume. Development since has been extension of earlier works. Reindeer-herding was hit, since river valleys were clear of snow when heights were not. Artificial feeding became necessary at times and animals had to be transported. Article describes some projects stopped or amended by local and national protest and by tourist interests. |
