Record #141831:

Mesoscale cyclone activity near Terra Nova Bay and Byrd Glacier, Antarctica during 1991 / Jorge F. Carrasco, David H. Bromwich.

Title: Mesoscale cyclone activity near Terra Nova Bay and Byrd Glacier, Antarctica during 1991 / Jorge F. Carrasco, David H. Bromwich.
Author(s): Carrasco, Jorge F.
Bromwich, David H.
Date: 1996.
Abstract: Describes formation and characteristics of mesoscale cyclones over Ross Sea and Ross Ice Shelf during 1991, based on digital satellite imagery and automatic weather station data. Discusses role of katabatic winds in high frequency of mesoscale cyclone formation near Terra Nova Bay, Byrd Glacier and southern Marie Byrd Land. Compares annual frequency of significant mesoscale cyclone formation with results for 1985 and 1988 and evaluates effect of interannual variations in circumpolar trough and polar vortex.
