Record #141830:

Satellite climatological aspects of cold air mesocyclones in the Arctic and Antarctic / Andrew M. Carleton.

Title: Satellite climatological aspects of cold air mesocyclones in the Arctic and Antarctic / Andrew M. Carleton.
Author(s): Carleton, Andrew M.
Date: 1996.
Abstract: Compares cold air mesocyclones in Arctic and Antarctic in terms of satellite-observed cloud vortex signatures, climatological regimes, and accompanying broadscale atmospheric and oceanic environments. Discusses major similarities and differences, and discusses effects of differences in land-sea distributions, patterns of sea-ice and snowcover extent, and extent of continental glacierization. Evaluates role of topography and katabatic winds in mesocyclone developments over ice-covered surfaces close to Antarctica, and importance of sea-air fluxes of heat and moisture for polar lows in Arctic marginal seas.
Notes:

Offprint: Global Atmosphere and Ocean System. Vol. 5(1) :1-42.
