| Abstract: | Three principal ways of detecting Saami loanwords in Finnish and Karelian are explained. Maps show distributions of up to 6 variants of certain words across Finland and southern Karelia, with few occurrences in Finnish of Lapland. Words mapped and discussed: longota, lonka, lonsia, luoska, luoskio, luosu, luosto, nuoska. |
