Symposium is good launching vehicle for reassessment. Moór and Simchenko postulate earlier common language from which both drew. Another possibility is continuing contact between eastern Saami and western Nenets. Author discusses 59 etymologies before concluding that proto-Saami was related to palaeo-European and that substrate common to Saami and Nenets fits Collinder's and Lehtiranta's result.
