Abstract: Title is Nansen's tribute. Book aims to bring Sverdrup out from shadows of Nansen and Amundsen. Sources were sparse, some destroyed in WW2. Main sources are Fram diaries of 1893-1896 and 1898-1902, with those of Russian rescue expeditions of 1914-1915 and 1920. Published sources are Sverdrup's own "Nyt Land" (account of his many Arctic discoveries) and "Under russisk Flag". Chapter discusses Sverdrup's relationships with Nansen and Amundsen. 50 page appendix by Asbjørn Aastrøm, who visited "Sverdrup's trail" in northern Canada by skidoo and sled in 1995.
