Abstract: Numerous excerpts from 1930s to 1986 tell of Helvi's childhood, early departure from Santonen to school and later to housework, time at sea, marriage, and husband's working life and retirement. Her close feeling to nature and sense of God in it became "quiet waters" period. Santonen has long history as family-centred community tied closely to nature's rhythms and supply. Sense of this fills all her writing.
