Abstract: Aim was to propose new World Heritage areas in Nordic countries in compliance with UNESCO Convention. So far 15 cultural monuments in these countries had been included in list, but no natural heritage areas. Basis for proposals is explained. 21 areas were put forward - 4 involving coastal landscape in Denmark and Greenland, 5 for Finland, mostly wet, but also Aalto's sanatorium at Pemar, 5 for Iceland - turf church, thermal bath, Surtsey, Mývatn and THingvellir -, 4 for Norway, coast and boreal rainforest, 3 for Sweden, landscape and coastal. General recommendations were also made concerning Saami heritage and follow-up work in Åland and Faeroes.
