Abstract: Outlines West Siberian natural gas region which currently supplies about 85% of all Russian gas. Natural gas industry has largely maintained its output since demise of USSR. Describes two largest natural gas fields, those of Novyy Urengoy and Yamburg and discusses projected development of Yamal gas field. These gas fields are linked by new pipelines directly to Central and West European markets.
