Abstract: Transgression was previously found in NW Iceland, with littoral macrofauna mainly gastropods, bivalves and barnacles. Age of sediments was c. 3000-0 BC, with transgression greatest in 2000 BC. Similar sediments found in South Iceland are described in article. Shelly layers behind coastal ridge are up to 5 m thick and up to 300 m inland. Correlated transgressions in Europe, Greenland and Brazil are given.
