Record #141396:

Tretti år rundt Svalbard / Karl J. Bengtssen.

Title: Tretti år rundt Svalbard / Karl J. Bengtssen.
Translated title: Thirty years around Svalbard.
Author(s): Bengtssen, Karl J.
Date: 1996.
Publisher: Skein, Norway: Vågemot forlag
Language: Norwegian.
Abstract: Author hunted seal, reindeer and walrus and overwintered on Spitsbergen, Edgeøya and Nordaustlandet over thirty years. Over this period, Tromsø traders built up staff of hardy, alert hunters who could cope with these unfriendly regions, but many had perished. Travel became easier when mining settlements were inhabited. Author learned in Baffin Bay and trapping along Labrador coast. After that, Svalbard took hold of his imagination. He was contacted by Nansen about Amundsen's "bottle post" and whether any had been found.
