Abstract: | Describes building, based on notional English mansion with Italian touches, and Nansen family's occupation of it. On Nansen's death in 1930, it passed to University; decay set in, but when Norwegian Geographical Society took it over in 1946 and set up foundation to run estate, it was renovated, completing work by 1958. Further work was done in 1981-1982. Institute was named in 1990, continuing research started in 1956. Current work includes environmental issues, Northern Sea Route Programme, and Russia and Eastern Europe Programme. |
