Record #140861:

The Saqqaq tool kit - technological and chronological evidence from Qaqertasussuk, Disko Bugt / Bjarne Grønnow.

Title: The Saqqaq tool kit - technological and chronological evidence from Qaqertasussuk, Disko Bugt / Bjarne Grønnow.
Author(s): Grønnow, Bjarne.
Date: 1996.
Publisher: Copenhagen: Danish Polar Center
In: Paleo-Eskimo Cultures of Greenland - new perspectives in Greenlandic archaeology. (1996.), Vol. 3
Abstract: Between 1983 and 1990, Qasigiannguit Museum excavated Saqqaq site. Permafrozen layers (covering time 1900-1100 BC) hid several dwelling structures, artefacts in wood and bone and animal remains. Paper deals with aspects of project, particularly tool kit and its chronology. Saqqaq material culture is shown to be complex, but conservative. Some regional differences within culture are emerging. Tools include knives, scrapers, adzes, borers, awls, saws, grinding stones, hammers, wedges, flint fakers and needles.
