Record #140719:

First results from a pre-operational system for automatic detection and recognition of seismic signals associated with avalanches / B.J.P. Leprettre, J.-P. Navarre, André Taillefer.

Title: First results from a pre-operational system for automatic detection and recognition of seismic signals associated with avalanches / B.J.P. Leprettre, J.-P. Navarre, André Taillefer.
Author(s): Leprettre, B. J. P.

Date: 1996.
In: Journal of Glaciology. (1996.), Vol. 42(141) (1996)
Abstract: Evaluates a semi-automatic system for avalanche activity, using seismic signals. Two sites on a massif in the French Alps were monitored, using either a mains or solar-powered power supply, and transmitted to the research centre for analysis. The large number of natural or human signals can also be recognised and filtered out. After testing, the system seems to be able to detect avalanches, some up to 10 km away from the sensors, better than human visual observations.
