| Abstract: | Derives a simple geometric model of glacier volume, based on assumptions about mass balance, summer temperature and winter snow accumulation. The model is used to reconstruct the volume of this glacier over the period 500 AD to 1992. Summer temperatures during this period are derived from tree-ring data. A decrease in glacier volume was found to be caused by low accumulation between 1946 and 1989, rather than warm temperatures. |
