Abstract: Article describes visit of ethnographer from Russian Ethnographic Museum, St Petersburg, from 1907-1909 to Saami in Norway, Finland and Sweden. He visited museums in south, travelled along north coast and, speaking Norwegian and Saami (essential to understand them), went on migration with Saami siida in Finnmark. He collected many items and wrote "Scandinavian Lapps" and (unpublished) manuscript on way of life, religion, herding, use of dogs, daily cycle, management of deer, clothing, dwelling sites, family life and patterns, food, equipment, transport etc. based totally on his fieldwork.
