Record #140584:

Sea ice in the polar regions and the Arctic observatory CIESIN.

Title: Sea ice in the polar regions and the Arctic observatory CIESIN.
Author (corporate): CIESIN.
Date: 1996.
Publisher: CIESIN
Abstract: First (written by Claire L. Parkinson) introduces viewer to role of sea ice in climate system and use of satellite data to monitor its distribution in Arctic and Antarctic. Topics include sea ice types, relevance, coverage, satellite observations of sea ice and further readings. Second (also on individual disc) is multi-media tool for students (grades 9-16) to investigate Arctic processes. They can analyse relationships between surface temperature, ice concentration, near surface winds, ice velocity and cloud cover over a six-year period to explore the Arctic system. Can pursue variety of scientific questions using data collected by satellites.
