| Abstract: | Lake is almost landlocked but connected to Malangen by 4 km long river, often < 0.5 m deep. Basin contains upper layer of fresh water, with salinity increasing towards bottom. Oxygen decreases to zero at 10-15 m depth. Profiles of temperature and oxygen content are shown. Marine fish are present in shallow intermediate layer. Local herrings, which have low number of vertebrae, have been specially studied. 12 species of fish are noted. |
