Abstract: Vessels used and their activities during period of isolation from Denmark are described. As war approached, extra supplies were hastily sent. At outbreak, bailiffs took over island and envoys in USA and Canada arranged supplies. Tables give annual miles sailed and weights carried by 10 craft. Sailings continued even in winter, when ice permitted, and local links were much more frequent than in peace time.
