Abstract: Article begins with brief history of Norwegian ski troops, starting with Swedish war of 1709-20. Angell was sure that first were Østerdalers. Angell just failed to join Nansen's or Nordenskiöld's expeditions, but skied around Vienna and in Montenegro during war with Turkey. Angell fought Bolsheviks on Murmansk Front 1918-1919, where Telemark type skis from France and Italy proved best. He later became famous as lecturer on his adventures and on history of skiing.
