Mountain soils derived from massive rocks in the northwestern Wedel Jarlsberg Land, Spitsbergen / Zbigniew Klimowicz, Jerzy Melke, Stanisław Uziak.
Title: | Mountain soils derived from massive rocks in the northwestern Wedel Jarlsberg Land, Spitsbergen / Zbigniew Klimowicz, Jerzy Melke, Stanisław Uziak. |
Author(s): | Klimowicz, Zbigniew. Melke, Jerzy. Uziak, Stanisław. |
Date: | 1996. |
In: | Polish Polar Research. (1996.), Vol. 17(1-2) (1996) |
Abstract: | Main soil properties at 23 sites were examined and soils classified as lithosols with common loamy and silty composition and small amount of colloid. Most soils were alkaline due to high content of CaCO₃. Much more organic substance occurred at westerly-exposed hills and at hills close to sea. Elements found included much Ca and Mg and some Na, little P and K. Plant density corresponded to organic content. |
