Abstract: Calanus hyperboreus is the main copepod in the Greenland Sea gyre (GSG) and is supposed to play a role in the carbon transport. This work synthesises the updated knowledge concerning the physiology of C. hyperboreus, and combined existing information on physiological processes, growth and abundance to feed a general population dynamics model. This model delivers outputs on stage abundances, biomass and individual growth. The simulated results of growth and development of C. hyperboreus show that this species is adapted to short periods of food abundances and able to overwinter in various copepodite stages. The model also delivers an overall picture of the annual population dynamics and thus permits bridging of the gaps in the field data.
