Abstract: During several cruises to the Greenland and Norwegian seas a relatively large data set on the carbon chemistry of the region was collected. A major objective behind these cruises was to study the seasonal cycle of CO2 on an interannual scale. The inorganic carbon chemistry was described by the variability of alkalinity, total carbonate, stable carbon isotopes of sea water, oxygen, and nutrient contents, with the aim of evaluating the importance of the carbon uptake from the atmosphere in the Greenland Sea and Nordic Seas in general.
