| Abstract: | There has been relatively modest rise in land since beginning of our era so several factors need to be taken into account. 570 boathouse remains are known north of Saltfjellet, mostly in Nordland, not all more than 200 years old. It can be assumed that all were near current shoreline, but varying in distance from it because of sea, relief and weather conditions prevailing. Several cases are described and rules of thumb for estimating distance suggested. |
